Organic options from Costco? | Guide to Organic Grocery Shopping

When most people think of Costco or any other big box store, they only think you can get bulk items like paper towels, toilet paper and ridiculous amounts of peanut butter. Maybe that used to be the case with these types of stores, but did you know you can get an amazing variety of organic products at Costco? Most families, mine included, usually go to Costco for specific items and skip the isles that they know they do not need anything. Let me show you what you may be missing out on by doing that.

*Keep in mind that these items were found at my local Costco, some of these may be seasonal and not all stores may carry the same items.

Let’s start in the produce section. There seems to be an amazing variety of organic options here. My local store usually carries a wonderful selection of organic apples, carrots, bananas and berries. On this particular day, they also had organic seeds.

In the meat department there are only a few options for organic meat. I usually find chicken breast, ground beef and ground turkey. The day that I went however, they had organic whole chickens available.

The coolers where a lot of the pre-packaged foods are kept do not typically offer a lot of variety for organic items. I, personally, do not shop these isles as I do not prefer pre-packaged or convenience items. I did find a few items in this section that I wanted to share, they had organic hummus, guacamole and cooked beets that would be good for salads.

In the dairy cooler, I found organic whole milk and almond milk. They also carry organic fresh eggs and boiled eggs which I have seen every time I go.

I do not typically go down every isle at Costco, or any store, but I wanted to search the center isles and see what I could find. In the drink isles I found organic coconut water, and Costco brand juice boxes. They also had Honest™ juice boxes.

In the frozen foods section there are a number of different items that can be found. They typically carry everything from fruits and vegetables to chicken breast to pot-stickers and many different things in between. Be sure to check your frozen section often and I feel like this section changes up a bit more than the rest of the areas.

At many Costco’s you can find a number of different items in the baking isles and the dry food isles. There were also a couple different breads available and tortillas at my local store. I found organic nuts, of different varieties, organic sugars-including coconut sugar, dried beans, Annie’s™ mac-n-cheese, quinoa, bone broth and organic stocks. You can also find many canned items, corn, tomatoes, black beans. I also found a Costco brand organic applesauce in pouches as well as name brand ones. There were also a number of organic sweeteners, honey and maple syrup as well as organic Costco brand peanut butter.
